Mares are placed in the pasture with a stallion in early March. We
have found that pasture breeding has increased the conception rate in our mares.
 Careful records are
kept of foaling dates, heat cycles and breeding dates. Mares are placed in a
"foaling pen" two to three weeks prior to their due dates.

After foaling, the mare & foal are moved to the "nursery
pen" for 5 to 7 days to ensure that the mare and foal have bonded properly and that
the foal is strong enough to be moved to the main pasture.

 The mare and foal
are placed back in the pasture with a stallion before the mare's "foal heat".
